At the heart of every SEO campaign is keyword research. Basically, a keyword is any word or phrase that a user might type in to a search engine such as Google to get results. The results returned show the relevant web pages on the internet related to the keyword. So, choosing the right keywords for a campaign is very important.
We first start the process of keyword research after a consultation with our client. We integrate strategic planning in the process to ensure that we are targeting the right market segment. After getting an initial idea of the proper keywords, we then test as many related keywords as possible to see which ones have the most potential. This is accomplished by looking at the number of average searches and the competition. It is critical to use keywords that allow for first page rankings in Google. This means finding the keywords that don’t have too much competition.
All of this is factored into the keyword research phase of any project. We like to involve the client in determining which keywords to start with. We then integrate a search for as many combinations as possible to maximize the return to the client. It is more important to find a few relevant keywords than a whole lot of irrelevant ones when it comes to Google.
